First line of the day of each journal entry:
Tuesday: "Today was like living the ideal and amazing life of a missionary."
Wednesday: "Oh my goodness! Such a good day."
Thursday: "Oh my goodness. Such a good day! :)"
Friday: "Another great day! I got a package today!"
Sunday: "Good day all around."
LOLOL. So my parents should enjoy reading all my journal pages for this week. It was just one of those weeks where nothing too noteworthy happened but everything just went perfectly (or close to it).
Tuesday was by far the best day of the week. It was literally amazing. This week was bike week and we didn't have to bike at all. That is my kind of week. And it's not because of our laziness (or "non-diligence" as our mission president likes to call it). But because we coordinated with members so well and arranged rides and exchanges and all of that jazz.
So my companion Sister Z is really confident (which is fantastic because that's the one attribute I prayed for in a lil trainee when I found out I'd be a trainer). Why am I writing about that? It's because she makes me compliment myself twice a day every day. Well she doesn't make me, and I usually forget to do it because I'm so tired, but I'm supposed to. Anyway, she has helped me see how it's good to acknowledge your strengths and it's okay to compliment yourself.
If I do say so myself, I am a pretty good at coordinating and executing plans. (And yes that probably comes from my wonderful mother who is the "fanciest planner" down yonder [but not really down yonder, because that's where I'm right now]). Back to Tuesday.
We got picked up a less active member and taken to IHOP. I let Sister Z choose because she really doesn't like many fast food places. haha. She doesn't like meat and it's really different than my past companions... but that's okay... anyway... We went to IHOP and she got cheesecake pancakes...lol.
We had a good lesson with that less active member (her husband is not a member and doesn't allow members to go to his house so we went out). We have been trying to focus on getting return appointments when we are with our less actives so that we don't have to just keep showing up. Anyway, when we asked her for a return appointment, she said that past sisters and her would go out once a month (she was under the misconception that we were replacing her visiting teachers' monthly visit lol) but that she would just like to meet every other month for lunch. We tried to just get an appointment teaching her at the church, but that wouldn't really work for her so we will see her the 2nd Tuesday of September. LOL.
After that, we went home and went on an exchange with a recently graduated girl in the ward. She's great. No one was home that we planned to visit with her, but the time spent with her was so great. The Bishop of this ward has been asking us to spend as much time with the youth as possible so we can help them see the spirit of missionary work and be able to be good examples for them. The Bishop of this ward is AMAZING so we basically do whatever he asks as soon as we can. YES. We have a lot of super trust with him, and we hope he does with us as well. :) I think E would be a great missionary. She's headed off to school in two weeks so that's kind of a bummer, but we are excited for her too!
After that, we got dropped off, and had a lil lil text waiting for us. It was a member saying, "We will be there in 7 minutes." That text was such a tender mercy for me. Why? Because I wanted to rest. NO. Because it reminded me of how my mom texts! #gottabeprecise haha not 5 or 10 minutes... but 7 minutes! haha. I loved it. So we went to a lesson with her and her daughter, who is 15, and it was fantastic. We taught the restoration to a returning less active family and it went really well.
As she was driving us home, we got on the freeway where it is my favorite place to look at the horizon. The sun was setting and everything was blissful and perfect and complete. The member was telling us about her daughter who is an EFY counselor and I was just soaking it all in (don't worry, that's not one of my current aspirations, but I do think the concept of it is fascinating). It was literally a perfect day. I got a letter from my cousin on a mission in Chile and it was so uplifting.
Then, we met the two new Elders to the area (One of them I served with in Durham and is still waiting on his visa after 11 months!!! Crazy!) and they gave me a letter with pictures in it from a nonmember friend in Durham. It was pictures of her and Sister B and I on her last day in Durham. #tendermercy. It was the perfect day.
Anyway, I guess I want to reply to everyone's email's now.
Oh yeah, we met this great girl, T, and her boyfriend right after they had gone on a run. We came back and taught her on Saturday and she's sooooo sweet and fantastic. She has this lil high pitched voice (no, it's not annoying) and she's so sweet. I asked her about her relationship with Jesus Christ and she said, "Yeah he's a pretty cool guy." And I was just like I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY hahaha. It was just one of those moments. Then I asked her if she believed He was her Savior and she said yes and all that jazz. She's just super "chill" and it was soooo funny.
Sister Z explained the Priesthood to her in a perfect way (the Spirit was THERE!!!!) and resolved any concerns or thoughts she may have had. She lives in a different city during the week and on our street on the weekend, so we will have to see how she progresses.
We're really loving it here and are happy to be the Lord's hands.
