Today marks the day I have officially been out on a mission for 2 months! Yay!
Okay, okay, okay. What to say about this week.
ALL of our appointments M-F fell through. And we had
member involved in ALL of them. It was a miracle Sister B and I
didn't get discouraged. It was definitely frustrating, but we got
through it.
And I am so glad we did. Because come Saturday morning, our weekend of miracles started.
Saturday
morning, a less-active we had been working with for a few weeks (doing
service and eating her amazing cooking haha) agreed to take us to Stake
Conference and attend herself as well. It was a miracle. She
reluctantly agreed to drive us and it made us so happy. After we got off
the phone, Sister B and I just screamed and screamed. It was so
great. I hope the man standing on our balcony painting (our apartment is
being refinished or something) heard us. We probably freaked him
out. Apparently she has not come to church in 5 years so we were just
thrilled.
After that, we went to see a potential "N"that we had met a
few weeks ago. Luckily she was home and let us in. We addressed her
concerns and questions and she agreed to bring her daughter with her to
church on the 20th! We are so excited. They are going to go shopping for
clothes to feel comfortable there (they don't like dresses, so that's a
big deal). We were so excited to finally teach another lesson!
After that, we tried to contact someone, "T" who we had visited and failed to contact. They weren't home again. So... we do what missionaries do best. We knocked every door on the same apartment floor as them. Five people not home. We went to the next floor and decided we would knock five more doors. First door... OPENED. Yes. We met T and he is hilarious. He told us the Adam and Eve story in the funniest way I have ever heard. And it wasn't contrary to our doctrine either. It was kinda a "gangster" version. I just wish I could have gotten it on tape. He was the joy of the day. It was so funny and made me so happy. We set up a return appointment and skipped merrily along to our next event.
Stake Conference. Oh my goodness. It was amazing.
And about Hastening the Work. It is great to be a missionary at such an
important time for members and missionaries to unite. It was just a
really powerful conference and I was so happy to be there. "You are
doing better than you think you are." That was the theme. :)
Sunday.
We had a really powerful lesson with R, a recent convert. We had each person share a personal and meaningful event that has happened in their life relating to the doctrine of Christ. Sister B and I took the first two elements, R took baptism (obviously ;)), and the other two sisters took the last two. It was so beautiful to see how the doctrine of Christ has affected us all in such a personal and meaningful way. The Spirit was so strong there. :)
MIRACLES HAPPEN... ONCE IN A WHILE... (Princess Diaries soundtrack anyone?)
