Story: It's Tuesday
morning and I am STRUGGLING. Like bad. Anyway, Sister B decides it
is better to postpone our studies and "go to work" right then and there.
We leave our apartment in hopes to catch up with one of our
investigators. We knock many doors and find many Spanish people that are
having their kids be translators. YES. Referrals for the Spanish Elders
in our district.
Then, we decided to go to Waffle House because that
is where one of our investigators works. We go there (thrilled I might
add- waffles are so good) and sit down like normal North Carolina folk. A
man asks us what our name tags are for and I say, "We are missionaries
from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints." Sister Beech
leans over and says," Wanna know more?" Typical missionaries right? YES.
But the reply we received was not so typical. A woman sitting at
another table started talking about how she had always wanted to know
more about our religion. We went over and sat with her and started
talking about the basics of our religion. Then, her phone rang.
This provided the perfect time for the man mentioned
earlier in the story to talk with us and bring up that he had an old
college professor who was Mormon. So I got up from the woman's table and
started talking with him. Sister Beech ended up eating and teaching a
lesson to the woman, and I ended up doing the same at the man's table.
WHAT A MIRACLE!
As I fully enjoyed my waffle and biscuit, there was
nothing that could have duplicated that gospel discussion I had with the
man across from me. He was an interested Christian who didn't like
labels of religion but knew the Bible well. We discussed different
beliefs that we shared and some that we didn't share as well. I bore
testimony of Joseph Smith and told him the only way he would ever know
for himself if it was true, would be to pray and ask God. He had many
interesting questions such as our disbelief in the concept of the
Trinity, and if we believed in the gift of tongues. Some of the stuff I
had never been asked before! I did my best and I really felt the Spirit
helping me as I taught him.
I overheard Sister B's conversation at random
points and she was asking the woman if she would be baptized, which
prompted me to do the same. The man was hesitant, but said that if he
knew it was true, he would have no problem being baptized.
This interaction at the Waffle House was sooooooo
unexpected and soooooo needed for us to get through that day. I really
appreciated this wonderful miracle that we received, in such an unlikely
place. We referred the man the Elders and we will be contacting the
woman again sometime this week.
God loves us and provides miracles and blessings in his own time. This week was such an unusual and great week
Sister B & I in our apartment
I
also went to my first "Pig Pickin.'" What kind of meat do you think of
when you think BBQ? I think beef, such as hamburgers. BBQ's here- PORK!
The pork was already off the pig here, which I guess makes it
less official, but I was glad to not have to see the pig head. The ward
party was so fun and we got the opportunity to interact with more
people.
Sister B and I have been studying an AMAZING
talk by Brad Wilcox found in the September issue of the Ensign. It is
called "His Grace is Sufficient." We love this message because it can
apply to all those we teach, and it applies especially to ourselves.
Read the talk. Seriously.
I love that
the talk points out that the price is already paid. Christ already
Atoned for our sins. He has taken on him the sins and sorrows of the
world. We need to live our lives in a way that honors the sacrifice He
made for us. "Living the gospel joyfully is the best way to share it."
(Hastening the Work video- check it out)
We need to partake of the goodness of the Atonement everyday. We can do this by repenting of all the things we do wrong.
Okay, I love you all (y'all)!
Have a good week!
