Mission Plaque

So, it has become quite the tradition to pick a favorite scripture for a plaque that hangs outside the Bishop's office at church. This plaque usually lists your name, where you are going, when you'll serve, and of course... your favorite scripture. I was having the hardest time deciding the perfect scripture for this missionary plaque. I think about it as a mission statement for my mission.

When I was in the middle of deciding what scripture to choose, (and trust me, I put off deciding for awhile) I found a few that really resonated with me. I thought about my favorite scripture of all time, D&C 121:7-8 that reads: "My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment; And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes." I was also considering another good missionary scripture, Alma 31:34-35, and D&C 68:6.

Not that choosing a scripture was of "do or die" importance, but I still wanted it to be meaningful. When I read D&C 68:6, I thought that it was the "best of both worlds." It combined elements from D&C 121:7-8, peace and comfort, and elements from Alma 31:34-35, missionary work and service.

So, I did it! I finally chose Doctrine and Covenants 68:6 as my mission scripture!

Wherefore, be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you; and ye shall bear record of me, even Jesus Christ, that I am the Son of the living God, that I was, that I am, and that I am to come.
