I just finished my first episode of The District for my "pre-mission preparation." If you don't know what this is, it is a documentary-style show (that they sometimes try to make look like reality TV with all the "cliff-hangers") about real missionary work. It is all real and there is no acting in these clips. Both the investigators and the missionaries had to sign waivers saying they agreed to be on the show.
The first season takes place in Texas. Honestly, I've already watched the whole season. While I was trying to decide if I should go on a mission or not, I watched these to try to help me with my decisions. I think it seems to be a pretty accurate display of how the mission life is. It doesn't cut out the boring, awkward, or hard parts about being a missionary. It shows some tension between companions, really awkward moments with investigators, and of course, some really cool moments. I know that I have been able to feel the Spirit while watching these clips. It has been really inspiring to know that I will be teaching the same principles and doctrines, just to different people.
I'm so excited to go the MTC in 100 days to train and learn how to be a better teacher. After that... NORTH CAROLINA!!!
You can watch it here if you please! I really suggest it. I really like it.
